I am really enjoying facilitating workshops for young people from Sutton Mencap at Sutton Archives for The Past on Glass project. The project is a Heritage Lottery Funded project about the Edwardian photographer David Knight’s-Wittome. In 1978, 11,000 glass plate negatives were found in the basement of a shop in Sutton. They were donated to the archives and this current project sees the the collection being digitised and preserved.
I have been employed to carry out three sessions for Sutton Mencap by using the project activity plan to develop and facilitate sessions that make the collection and work of the project accessible to a wider audience. So far we have had two sessions and have been looking at images from the collection, setting the context and creating our own images using modern technology. It has been great working with Abby Matthews and Kath Shawcross from Sutton Archives. I am looking forward to the final session on Thursday and hope to share more about the sessions after then.
